Tom has used a number of different names over the years:
Name given at birth: Thomas Papanier
Name used when arrested in 1965: Thomas Papaniar
Name used when imprisoned in 1965: Homas Papanier
Name changed after 21 Nov 1985: Thomas Papania

Thomas Papanier legally changed his surname to PAPANIA on 21st November 1985, in civil action 85-A-3482-4, which was recorded in the Superior Court of Gwinnett County, Georgia, USA.

However, Tom was illegally using the PAPANIA surname back in the late 1970's and early 1980's, when applying for driver's licences (see Atlanta Federal Court transcript: Volume 43, pages 110 and 111).
